The most anticipated films of this summer have already hit the cinemas, and fans are already losing themselves in the thrills, explosions, and drama of the movie season. As usual, there’s a superhero movie, a sequel or two, and productions from multiple franchises. Here are four of the movies people were most looking forward to this summer.
Furiosa and In a Violent Nature
Furiosa, the new George Miller movie, is about the origin story of the one-armed Furiosa, who helped Mad Max in Fury Road. It tells of how she became the awesome character from the last film. It’s one of the more noteworthy movies of this summer and is a great addition to the series. Anya Taylor-Joy shines as Furiosa, and those watching can easily imagine how she becomes the character that Charlize Theron embodied. Notable costars are Chris Hemsworth and Tom Burke.
Chris Nash has made a great slasher flick for this summer with In a Violent Nature. In this movie, an undead figure targets anyone they come across. What’s different about this film is that the viewer follows the path of the homicidal creature for long periods between the murders, as the camera follows them from behind.
Robot Dreams and Am I Ok?
Next up is Robot Dreams, a story about a dog living a lonely life who orders a mechanical friend to keep him company. It was adapted from the graphic novel by Sarah Varon with Pablo Berger directing. Things take a bad turn on a beach trip where the two get separated, and we’ve heard it’s a real tear-jerker.
Last on the list is the rom-com Am I Ok?, co-directed by Tig Notaro and Stephanie Allynne, who were inspired by a true story. The plot follows a woman named Lucy, played by Dakota Johnson, who slowly discovers her sexuality while her best friend, played by Sonoya Mizuno, pushes her to start dating. This escalates as a beautiful masseuse, played by Kiersey Clemons, starts giving Lucy hints.
