Geoffrey Kent, founder of Abercrombie & Kent, found himself in Egypt during the 1970s. There, he stumbled upon a film crew filming Agatha Christie’s Death on the Nile. After a dinner conversation with British actor David Niven, the concept of making luxurious Nile riverboats was born. These vessels, which stand out as the epitome of luxury, are still a desired vacation option today.
Nile Riverboats and Luxury
In 1977, the luxury adventure travel pioneer launched the first Nile cruise, marking the beginning of a legacy. Now, four decades later, Kent’s vision persists. Luxury boats with panoramic windows, marble detailing, and various amenities are still popular, and Abercrombie & Kent is presently making its fifth Egyptian riverboat to redefine the standards of Nile cruising.
The new luxury boat is currently being built at Egypt’s Massara Shipyard. Its maiden voyage is supposed to be in the fall of 2025, and the riverboat will have 32 cabins. The cabins will have floor-to-ceiling windows, Juliet-style balconies, marble bathrooms, and luxurious Egyptian cotton sheets. There will also be two presidential suites with private decks and outdoor hot tubs.
A New Nile Riverboat
Onboard amenities will include an outdoor and indoor restaurant, a gym, a swimming pool, a spa, a sundeck, and communal spaces. These all promise a holistic and luxurious experience for passengers. Abercrombie & Kent advertise that this riverboat will offer the most immersive Nile cruise experience yet. The crew will be hand-picked with Egyptian experts providing all services. Naturally, a ride on the boat will not be a mere cruise. It will offer its passengers a privileged portal into the timeless mysteries and secrets of ancient Egypt.
The riverboat ride will offer VIP moments like after-hours access to the Pyramids of Giza and private dinners in ancient temples. The enchanting voyage will elevate the already extraordinary experiences that Egypt offers at every stage of the journey. Egyptologists and storytellers will also help bring Egypt’s luminous history to life.
