We Adjusted the Faces of 20+ Celebrities to Golden Ratio Standards, and Here Are the Results

Is the Golden Ratio Really More Beautiful?

The golden ratio is a mathematical equation found in nature that often appears in things people perceive as aesthetic. For example, flower petals, shells, and spiral galaxies all have ratios of 1:1.618 — the golden ratio. Theoretically, a human face with the golden ratio would be exceptionally attractive. So, we’ve used AI to alter celebrities’ faces to fit the golden ratio. The question is, are they really more beautiful this way?

Rihanna

Golden Ratio Rihanna looks like Regular Rihanna but without any of the distinctive features that set her apart. So, basically, a downgraded version. RiRi seems to know that standing out works for her, as she’s never tried to fit into the stereotypical beauty standards.

(Left) Tiktok // @frontedbeauty | (Right) FaceApp

The singer has said, “I’m not built like a Victoria’s Secret girl, and I still feel very beautiful and confident in my lingerie.” We’ll take Real Rihanna any day of the week!

Jennifer Lopez

We’re not sure what the golden ratio’s done to Jennifer Lopez’s nose, but can it please undo it?! Given that J.Lo changed the game in Hollywood by making curves socially acceptable, we’re sure that she doesn’t mind the fact that her face doesn’t fit a specific mathematical formula.

(Left) Twitter // @doingbuzzz | (Right) FaceApp

In fact, when talking about how she’s not super thin like many of the female celebs who came up in the ‘90s, Lopez expressed, “I feel great about it!”

Chris Hemsworth

Chris Hemsworth looks pretty similar both with and without the help of AI, although Golden Ratio Chris is inexplicably less manly looking. We can’t really explain why but we think Original Hemsworth is hunkier.

(Left) Pinterest // @5minutecraftsfamily | (Right) FaceApp

It seems that the actor would agree that his testosterone-fueled appearance is part of his draw as a celebrity. When talking about his iconic work as Thor — which made him a household name — Hemsworth admitted, “There’s an aesthetic that the role requires.”

Henry Cavill

In 2022, Henry Cavill officially became known as the Most Handsome Man according to an annual survey. We have to say, we’re not sure that Golden Ratio Henry would win that same honor. Being so attractive doesn’t come without its drawbacks, though, as Cavill is often objectified.

(Left) Pinterest // @5minutecraftsfamily | (Right) FaceApp

In an attempt to call out the double standard between men and women, the actor revealed that he’s had women shout things to him on the street like, “Oi, love, fancy a shag?” Hmmm, how about both genders hold themselves to higher standards?

Megan Fox

Megan Fox is largely regarded as one of the most beautiful women in the world. Well, at least she’s perceived that way when her face hasn’t been altered to fit the golden ratio.

(Left) Beauty Tip Today // beautytip.com| (Right) FaceApp

AI Megan Fox is still gorgeous but has a larger forehead and looks like her whole face has been smashed to the bottom half of her head. Despite her reputation of being alluring, Fox insists, “I don’t ever see myself the way other people see me.”

Keanu Reeves

It appears that Keanu Reeves’ natural face already fits into the golden ratio pretty well, as the only notable changes are his eyebrows and chin. Interestingly, AI Keanu’s eyebrows are giving us Jason Mamoa vibes.

(Left) Pinterest // @joinfonews | (Right) FaceApp

Although the actor doesn’t really give into Hollywood’s beauty standards – or any other celebrity standards, for that matter — a source close to him has revealed that Reeves knows he’s not immortal (despite popular belief). “Keanu was talking about getting older and being up late reading scripts, and how to make his skin camera ready.”

Margot Robbie

Golden Ratio Margot looks like Margot Robbie and Scarlett Johansson had a baby (we wish!) Robbie looks like quite a few other celebrities, such as Jamie Pressly and Samara Weaving, but we never really thought she resembles Johansson until now.

(Left) Reddit // u/[deleted| | (Right) FaceApp

Despite being known as a bombshell, Margot insists, “I did not grow up feeling like I was particularly attractive.” She continued, “In my big group of girlfriends at home, I am definitely not the best-looking.” Ummm, can we see these friends?

Sarah Jessica Parker

Poor Sarah Jessica Parker gets a lot of undue flak for her appearance. It’s pretty ironic that she’s perceived as unattractive, though, seeing as how her face fits pretty close to the golden ratio. AI Sarah basically looks like Regular Sarah but with Botox.

(Left) East News // Gael Colliguet | (Right) FaceApp

As for the criticism she receives, Parker insists that “there should be no apologies” on her part for her appearance. We absolutely agree that no one should ever feel bad for how they look. Furthermore, we truly see nothing wrong with this wonderful actress!

Cillian Murphy

We’re okay seeing Cillian Murphy’s face altered to the golden ratio, but don’t you dare touch Tommy Shelby! AI Cillian looks decent enough but doesn’t seem like the type who could lead the Peaky Blinders.

(Left) Pinterest // @CillianMurphyUnlimited | (Right) FaceApp

Perhaps the reason we differentiate the actor from the character so much is that Murphy himself doesn’t care about his own appearance. A colleague of his expressed that Cillian has “the blessed curse of beauty. The camera loves to watch light fall on the structure of his face. But it doesn’t interest him in the slightest.”

Tom Hiddleston

Something about Golden Ratio Tom’s facial structure reminds us of Hugh Jackman. Anyway, whether altered by AI or not, Hiddleston doesn’t care too much about physical appearance.

(Left) Pinterest // @popsugar | (Right) FaceApp

Like any good man, he knows to listen to his mother, and she’s taught the actor to put his priorities in order. Tom explained, “My mother places a huge importance on decency and kindness and always has — and the older I get the more I realize how rare that is.”

Kim Kardashian

AI Kim looks like herself but with natural lips that are kind of giving us Vanessa Hudgens vibes. So, basically, Golden Ratio Kim is Regular Kim but without the fillers. Undoubtedly, if any of the Kardashians catch wind of the fact that there’s a mathematical equation to look more attractive, they’d start yet another plastic surgery trend.

(Left) East News //  Xavier Collin | (Right) FaceApp

The reality stars know what they’re doing, though, and they’re okay with it. Kim admits, “I really, genuinely care about looking good. I probably care more than 90% of the people on this planet.”

Jennifer Aniston

The only significant difference we see between AI Jennifer and Original Jennifer is her nose. Ironically, neither nose is Aniston’s natural one as the actress had a rhinoplasty in 2007 due to a deviated septum — expressly not for the sake of fitting beauty standards.

(Left) Pinterest // @instyle | (Right) FaceApp

In fact, the actress probably isn’t all that interested in the fact that her face is mathematically attractive, as she’s aptly expressed that women are “measured against some warped standard of beauty.”

Katy Perry

Um, sorry, but Golden Ratio Katy looks terrifying! To be fair, Perry is so caked with makeup in both images that neither looks particularly natural. Still, though, something about AI Katy makes us think of a creepy character from a Tim Burton film, or even those weird photoshopped images of the robots dancing with Elon Musk.

(Left) Pinterest // @teenvogue | (Right) FaceApp

On that note, Perry feels that when it comes to beauty standards, “There have been decades of bad messaging and we are rewiring now.” We agree, so let’s ditch the doll-like “perfection!”

Billie Eilish

Spotting the differences between Real Billie and Golden Ratio Billie is a real challenge! We’d argue that finding the AI changes could count as an eye exam. Never one to conform to beauty standards or how Hollywood would like her to dress, Eilish is uninterested in whether or not you — or math — find her attractive anyway.

(Left) Pinterest // @english_with_hani1 | (Right) FaceApp

The singer said, “My thing is that I can do whatever I want. It’s all about what makes you feel good […] If you feel like you look good, you look good.”

Leonardo DiCaprio

Oh wow, it’s safe to say that we very much prefer Leonardo DiCaprio’s natural face. Given his roster of inappropriately young — albeit legal — ex-girlfriends, we have to say that the actor seems to be doing just fine on the appearance front.

(Left) Reddit // u/Big-Stand4723 | (Right) FaceApp

Even if he weren’t, DiCaprio is surprisingly deep when it comes to beauty. His longtime friend Kate Winslet recalls Leonardo telling her, “It’s really important that you are the shape that you are” and that she serves as a role model to curvier girls.

Angelina Jolie

It seems that Angeline Jolie’s face isn’t too far from the golden ratio as is. Ironically, the actress insists, “I always felt not traditionally beautiful.” If you’re confused by that comment, you’re not alone.

(Left) Daily Mail // AFP | (Right) FaceApp

It makes a bit more sense, though, paired with another Jolie quote — “The people I see as beautiful are those who don’t bend to somebody else’s opinion of what is appropriate or beautiful.” For those who remember Angelina’s kiss with her brother, we’d say she fits that definition of beautiful too.

Taylor Swift

Something about AI Taylor looks very soccer-mommy to us. Perhaps the singer has always given off somewhat of a soccer mom vibe but this image brings that energy to the forefront since it makes her look more mature.

(Left) Pinterest // @harpersbazaar | (Right) FaceApp

As for her thoughts about beauty, Swift has called Hollywood’s expectations “impossible” and says “There’s always some standard of beauty you are not meeting.” Yup, that’s unfortunately very true. Golden ratio or not, it’s just impossible to win.

Cristiano Ronaldo

Golden Ratio Cristiano kind of looks like Original Cristiano’s younger cousin. Interestingly, Ronaldo seems more youthful when his face meets the golden ratio, which is ironic since doctors often say he has the body of someone 10 years his junior.

(Left) Pinterest // @HalaRealMadrid | (Right) FaceApp

Clearly, all of Cristiano’s hard work toward living a healthy lifestyle has paid off. It’s not entirely for his sport though, as the athlete has admitted that when it comes to fame “I think to be good-looking helps too.”

Anne Hathaway

We have to say that Anne Hathaway is far more beautiful than either of these images gives her credit for. That said, we’ll take Real Anne over AI Anne any day of the week. In case you’re hoping to look that good when you’re in your 40s, the actress’ facialist insists that “Anne is incredibly disciplined when it comes to her skin.”

(Left) Twitter // @twiceblunt | (Right) FaceApp

Just in case a fancy skincare routine isn’t your thing, you can try the being unproblematic method, which many of Hathaway’s fans credit for her youthful glow.

Eddie Redmayne

Aside from a slightly slimmer nose and a somewhat smaller mouth, we really don’t see a difference between these two images of Eddie Redmayne. While many of us would find it odd for our faces to be altered by AI, Redmayne is pretty accustomed to looking dramatically different than his natural self, given the types of roles he’s taken on in the past.

(Left) Daily Mail // AFP | (Right) FaceApp

The actor revealed, “What’s become clear to me is that comfort and I don’t go very well together.” Well then, Eddie, this picture should be perfect for you!

Emma Stone

Truthfully, if we weren’t aware that AI had altered a photo of Emma Stone, we wouldn’t have any idea which celebrity this is a golden ratio image of. Luckily, when it comes to beauty standards, Stone has no desire to fit in.

(Left) Pinterest // @voguebrasil | (Right) FaceApp

The actress has said, “The more unique the better.” She went on to add that she finds people most attractive when they’re “being true to how they want to look or what their face is.”

Harry Styles

Golden Ratio Harry looks like Regular Harry if he were dreamed up by Hollywood executives. So, basically, he’s traditionally handsome but has lost all of his quirks, charm, and personality.

(Left) Pinterest // @refinery29 | (Right) FaceApp

Luckily, the real Harry Styles is just as cheeky as ever! When asked when he feels most beautiful, the singer first answered seriously by saying when he feels good internally. But, never one to be a bore, Styles swiftly added, “Or maybe when I’m asleep!”

Gal Gadot

Gal Gadot is always gorgeous, but we actually think she’s more beautiful when her face doesn’t fit the golden ratio. The AI image has an unfortunate way of drawing the eye to the actress’ natural signs of aging.

(Left) Facebook // Aguascalientes de Mexico| (Right) FaceApp

We have a feeling that Gadot would agree with us, as she’s previously said that when it comes to her appearance, “I’m about enhancing the right things.” Don’t worry, Gal, you’re still perfectly stunning — AI shenanigans or not!

Timothée Chalamet

This AI image makes Chalamet’s jaw more square, which is often perceived as more masculine, stripping the actor of his trademark androgyny. This just goes to show that one simple tweak can take away the uniqueness of a person’s appearance.

(Left) Reddit // u/SandyCandyBrandy | (Right) FaceApp

In fact, Timothée’s ability to merge the feminine and masculine has always been a part of him. When talking about his fashion sense growing up, Chalamet said, “Honestly it was the women’s clothes at Topshop for me.” Same, Timothée, same.

Will Smith

So, AI Will is the same as Regular Will but… Older? It seems that all this actor needs to do to fit the golden ratio is wait a few years. In the meantime, he’ll just keep on as his non-golden ratio self, not caring about Hollywood’s expectations.

(Left) Shutterstock // Image Press Agency | (Right) FaceApp

An example of this is Smith’s famous dad bod pictures from 2021, which sparked a worldwide conversation. In fact, those photos inspired activist Virgie Tovar to call to attention that “when it comes to the beauty standard […], men just have a lot more license.”

Sandra Bullock

AI Sandra seems to be Normal Sandra (post-cosmetic procedures) with Michael Jackson’s nose. Clearly, Bullock doesn’t need the golden ratio or any work done, as People magazine named her the Most Beautiful Woman in the World in 2015.

(Left) Shutterstock // Image Press Agency | (Right) FaceApp

The actress didn’t seem to agree with the decision, though… When asked how she feels about the honor, Sandra responded, “I just said, ‘That’s ridiculous.’ I’ve told no one.” She went on to explain, “Real beauty is quiet. […] The people I find most beautiful are the ones who aren’t trying.”

Zendaya

As it turns out, the golden ratio requires Zendaya’s face to be a completely different shape! Interestingly, the actress has explicitly said that she doesn’t want something as fundamental as her face shape altered.

(Left) East News // Mega Agency | (Right) FaceApp

Zendaya explained, “I’m in a place in my life where I can say no. It’s one thing to get rid of a pimple, and another to completely change someone’s face. For me, it’s about how to be in control of that situation.” Note to selves, Zendaya doesn’t want to mess with AI!

Tom Holland

Despite Golden Ratio Tom looking like a completely different person than Original Tom, the actor hasn’t suffered any issues with beauty standards. At least, not when it comes to his face. That said, the actor has routinely needed to explain to people that it’s perfectly fine he’s on the shorter side.

(Left) East News // Mega Agency | (Right) FaceApp

5’8″ Holland is dating 5’10” Zendaya, which people seem to be horrified by. Tom, though, has aptly called the idea that a man must be taller than his girlfriend a “stupid assumption.”

Lady Gaga

Despite her natural face being quite close to the golden ratio, Hollywood executives have told Lady Gaga, “You’re not pretty enough for a pop star.” and “Oh you’re just downtown cool but I can’t sell you to mainstream America.”

(Left) Instagram // @ladygaga.now | (Right) FaceApp

Um, are they seeing what we’re seeing?! Luckily, Gaga’s talent is undeniable and opened doors for her that her appearance, inexplicably, wouldn’t. We think it’s safe to say that Lady Gaga’s status as one of the biggest pop icons of all time has proven the haters wrong.

Benedict Cumberbatch

While many people find Benedict Cumberbatch’s attractiveness to be debatable, no one can deny that he isn’t that far off from the golden ratio. Apparently, the actor himself has weighed in on the discussion of his appeal.

(Left) East News // Invision | (Right) FaceApp

Cumberbatch has said, “I do find it funny. I look in a mirror and I see all the faults I’ve lived with for 35 years and yet people go kind of nuts for certain things about me. It’s not me being humble. I just think it’s weird.”

Kourtney Kardashian

Strangely, AI Kourtney looks eerily similar to her sister Kylie before any cosmetic procedures. The entire Kardashian clan has an unfortunate habit of not allowing themselves to age naturally, but it seems that at least Kylie could’ve hit the golden ratio if she’d just let things be.

(Left) Instagram // @kourtneykardash | (Right) FaceApp

As for Kourtney, she’s found her confidence recently thanks to her husband, Travis Barker. The reality star explained, “Every day Travis is like, ‘You’re perfect.’” If there’s a golden ratio for marriage, we think this is it!

Matthew McConaughey

AI Matthew honestly looks like Regular Matthew if he were an alien. If you’ve ever wondered how people would look different in a parallel universe – now you know. Despite his actual face not even coming close to the golden ratio, McConaughey is largely considered to be perfectly attractive, and he’s not shy about it!

(Left) BuzzFeed // WireImage | (Right) FaceApp

The actor has called his desirable status “cool” and “an honor.” He also pointed out that he couldn’t have achieved such heights without his mom’s helpful genes.

Kerry Washington

They say that being happy makes you age more gracefully. Well, Golden Ratio Kerry looks like Everyday Kerry if she weren’t such a positive person. AI Kerry looks angry and like she’s about to go Karen on someone.

(Left) Pinterest // @popsugar | (Right) FaceApp

We prefer the real Kerry Washington. You know, the one who admits to fans that beauty standards are bogus because “There’s someone who follows me around all day long [on the set]. Like, literally follows me to make sure there’s not a single hair out of place. This is somebody’s full-time job.”

Mindy Kaling

As much as we love Mindy Kaling, at least we did before Velma, Golden Ratio Mindy is legit giving us nightmares! We think it’s safe to say that this is proof some things, like people’s facial features — and Scooby-Doo — are better left alone.

(Left) Pinterest // @popsugar | (Right) FaceApp

When it comes to the pressure of looking a certain way, Kaling admits, “I absolutely do try to conform to normal standards of beauty. I am just not remotely successful at it.” We’ll say it again, certain things are better left as they are.

Shay Mitchell

Shay Mitchell is another celebrity who, when her face is changed to fit the golden ratio, looks like a lifeform from another planet. Even when it comes to photos that seemingly haven’t been altered by AI, Mitchell doesn’t want her fans to believe what they see.

(Left) Facebook // Shay Sins | (Right) FaceApp

“No one looks like that,” says the actress. “I have friends that are like supermodels, and we all have our own imperfections. Nobody’s perfect, there’s so much Photoshop that goes on, it’s insane, it would blow your mind.”

Ashley Tisdale

Looking at Golden Ratio Ashley is like looking at a trainwreck — we desperately want to tear our eyes away, but we can’t. There’s something almost pug-like about the AI image of this beautiful actress. And why can’t she fit the golden ratio and still smile?

(Left) Entertainment Tonight // Dominik Bindl | (Right) FaceApp

Despite being gorgeous, Tisdale has confessed that even for her, “The pressure to being perfect is a struggle.” While no one’s perfect, Ashley comes pretty close… well, not in this altered image, but in most other scenarios.

Salma Hayek

We can probably all agree that Golden Ratio Salma and Original Salma look absolutely nothing alike. That said, the stunning actress makes a great point about trying to meet beauty standards.

Pinterest // @5minutecraftsfamily

She’s successful, rich, has her career, is married, healthy, and most importantly — happy. Which led her to ask, “Why do I have to look good?” While we’re certainly not advocating for letting oneself go, we have to agree with Hayek that physical appearance isn’t the be-all, end-all.

Dua Lipa

Despite the alterations between AI Dua and Regular Dua being minimal, the two images seem dramatically different. This just goes to show that even a slight change can make someone suddenly unrecognizable. As it turns out, the singer sometimes doesn’t even recognize herself from before she was famous.

(Left) East News // Invision | (Right) FaceApp

Lipa explained, “Without realizing it, we learn and adopt certain standards that are fed by society and don’t feel good enough if we don’t meet them (and yes, there is a certain expectation of what you should look like as a pop star).”

Blake Lively

It seems that Blake Lively already meets the golden ratio, except for having a normal nose rather than the mess that AI Blake is stuck with. It looks like two noses were mashed together and elongated!

(Left) Reddit // u/prankored | (Right) FaceApp

Despite being a natural beauty, the actress is honest with her fans about how she’s always so glamorous. “People don’t understand that it’s all very constructed. What little girls are seeing isn’t what [celebrities] look like when they wake up in the morning.”

Zoë Kravitz

AI Zoë and Everyday Zoë look so similar that if we replaced an unaltered image of the actress with a golden ratio one, you probably wouldn’t notice. The only real difference is that — as with all the golden ratio images — her smile is smaller.

(Left) Reddit // u/leos-rdt | (Right) FaceApp

Apparently, in order to be mathematically beautiful you need to be unhappy. As it turns out, Kravitz just may agree with that sentiment, as she’s said, “To me, beauty is an attitude, you know?”

Ian Somerhalder

Golden Ratio Ian is similar to Regular Ian, except that his nose and jaw have been stripped of all ruggedness. While we’re talking about him, has anyone ever noticed that Somerhalder looks suspiciously similar to pre-cosmetic procedures Zac Efron?

(Left) Facebook // Trasferiamoci a Mystic Falls | (Right) FaceApp

Anyway, Ian seems to be aware of how most people in the world perceive him and his ability to make otherworldly, blood-sucking creatures seem desirable. The actor best known for his work in The Vampire Diaries admits, “Vampires are pretty.” Sure, Ian, when you play them!

Emily Blunt

We think that Original Emily is more attractive, but something tells us that crazy Hollywood executives would prefer AI Emily. Blunt isn’t interested in playing that game, though, as the actress has explained, “I’m aware of the physical pressures on women for sure, especially now with two girls.”

(Left) East News // Invision | (Right) FaceApp

She put her money where her mouth is in 2015 when guests at the Canned Film Festival were advised that women who weren’t in heels wouldn’t be allowed in. The actress led the backlash and suggested that “everyone should wear flats.”

Mark Consuelos

We’re sorry, Mark, we really are, but your face just isn’t cut out for the golden ratio — in fact, it’s absolutely terrifying! Before anyone gets upset, we should point out that Normal Mark looks great. Consuelos is confident enough without our praise, though.

(Left) Shutterstock // Ron Adar | (Right) FaceApp

He’s posted a photo of himself standing between two basketball players, who towered over him, with the caption, “I was concerned they were going to put me in a Bjorne [baby carrier].” Golden ratio or not, there’s something extremely attractive about a man with a sense of humor!

Tan France

Poor AI Tan looks like his face has been through a blender! Maybe this is one makeover that simply didn’t need to happen. Ever the optimist, France insists that “We all have it in us to look our best.” We completely agree, Tan, but for you – the golden ratio is not it.

(Left) Cosmopolitan // Gregg DeGuire | (Right) FaceApp

Let’s just leave the handsome fashion designer/TV personality’s face the way it naturally wants to be, rather than warping it into this mathematical mess.

Ariana Grande

Ariana Grande is living proof that the hard rule of the golden ratio doesn’t necessarily apply to everyone. In fact, AI Ariana looks like an entirely different person!

(Left) Twitter // @BibisBeauty | (Right) FaceApp

Grande knows that there are no bottom lines when it comes to beauty, as she’s said, “I don’t love beauty rules, really. It should be so personal. And I don’t know that you have to follow any rules. I think we create and then we see what works and what doesn’t for us.”
